About Daniel Quat

Photographing food has been a passion of mine for many years. Capturing the textures, colors, perfect composition and visual excitement in the camera elicits in me and hopefully in the viewer, a desire to devour that plate of food! If that happens,  I’ve accomplished my goal of capturing the essence of the dish.

Minor White, a mystical photographer and one of my mentors once said, “Be still with yourself until the object of your attention affirms your presence”.  This defines my approach to photography. I wait until the plate of food or liquid speaks to me by careful observation and manipulation of the light,  props or subject.  My attention to being present…using all my senses to be with the food…It’s a love affair with the plated masterpiece.

I’ve been shooting professionally for over 45 years. First in NYC for 20 years and now in Santa Fe for almost 20 years…The magic of light on a subject captivates me and inspires my camera.

When I’m not working I’m dancing in a Nia class, riding horses and hiking in the beautiful New Mexican high desert around Santa Fe. 

My mission as a photographer, is to help people to be seen; to capture their story or passion…be it love between people, or love of food or their art.
